Exam prep that plans your reviews for you

Flashcards plans your exam revision with five Leitner boxes: every card comes back after 1, 3, 7, 14 or 30 days, and each day you study only what is due. Start a few weeks before the exam and let the schedule do the planning.

Exam notes turned into flashcards

Start weeks ahead, not the night before

Cramming works for tomorrow, not for next month. Spreading reviews over days and weeks, the spacing effect, leads to much better long-term memory (see why the Leitner system works). Starting from Box 1, a card you know every time reaches Box 5 after four reviews on day 0, 3, 10 and 24. Start four to six weeks ahead and most cards will have been reviewed several times before the exam.

One topic per subject

Create a topic for each subject or module, such as “Anatomy: muscles”, “Contract law” or “Statistics”. Each side of a card holds up to 500 characters of text or a photo: a diagram, a formula from the whiteboard, a page from your notes. Photos are added manually and are free; the app does not read text from them.

Turn lecture notes into cards

Right after a lecture, record a one-minute voice memo that sums up the key points. With Flashcards Plus, AI turns the memo into card suggestions that you edit and confirm. Plus includes 12 AI uses a day and up to 60 a month. Details on AI flashcards from voice memos.

Study only what is due

Each day the due session collects the cards whose review date has arrived, across all topics. Mark cards you keep getting wrong as hard: hard cards are due every day and appear twice per session. Before the exam you can practise a whole topic or a single box; practice sessions never change your boxes or due dates.

Study group? Share a topic

With shared topics, a study group can split the work: everyone adds cards for their chapter, and everyone studies all of them in their own boxes. Reviews and hard marks stay private. Sharing is part of Flashcards Plus.

Stay on track

Your streak counts the days in a row on which you studied. A daily reminder at a time you choose tells you when cards are due, and the five-step staircase shows how many cards sit in each box, so you can watch a topic move from Box 1 towards Box 5 as the exam gets closer.

Questions about studying for exams

How early should I start studying for an exam?

Four to six weeks before the exam is ideal. Starting from Box 1, a card you always know needs four reviews over 24 days to reach Box 5. Starting earlier means more reviews and less stress; starting later still helps, you just get fewer repetitions.

Can I review everything right before the exam?

Yes. Practise a whole topic or a single box at any time. Practice sessions do not change boxes or due dates, so your long-term schedule stays intact after the exam.

Can I use images of diagrams and formulas?

Yes. Either side of a card can be a photo from the camera or the photo library, such as a diagram, a formula or a page of notes. Images are free. The app does not extract text from photos; you add the question yourself.

Does it work for medicine, law or IT?

Yes. The boxes work for any fact you can put on a card: anatomy terms, legal definitions, drug classes, algorithms or command syntax. The topic library in Flashcards Plus already includes an IT fundamentals topic with 76 cards.
